Aftercare for your newly
seeded lawn, including watering practices and mowing.

NEWLY INSTALLEDSEED CARE AND UPKEEP:

Once your new lawn has been seeded, there is still work that has to be done to help it grow. Proper watering practices need to be followed to provide the grass seed with ideal growing conditions. When watering your new seed, the most important tip is to keep your soil moist as long as possible. To do this, you will need to periodically water the seed on a daily basis, and monitor your soil for moisture. But, do NOT over-water. Too much water can damage the new seed. If you start to see puddles forming in the soil, stop watering immediately until the soil dries out, and then you can continue with light watering. Another thing to consider when watering is the current season. The summer months, compared to spring and fall, are much warmer and drier. The seed will need much more periodic watering because the soil dries out faster in the Summer heat.

Once the seed has grown to the height you would like to maintain, (for home lawns, best heights are between 2.5”-3”), you should begin to mow it. When grass first starts to grow, mowing it often helps to produce more shoots, which will give you a much thicker lawn. After your lawn has established properly, be sure to maintain it with proper mowing and fertilizing programs.
